Innovative Design / Construction Techniques / Value Engineering:
BIM technology was used to ensure the Pall equipment could be installed within the building in the shortest time possible. It also allowed collaborative working with the client and enabled fitness for purpose of the design to be assured prior to commencement of construction.
Thames critical dates were to have the plant up and running in service by 31st August. Apart from some minor changes to initial design criteria requested by Thames due to increased flow requirements from run to waste, EA monitoring and protection of the system no significant issues were encountered.
Challenges were encountered when laying the initial slab due to bad weather conditions and locating the process plant in the building, these were overcome through effective cooperation with the client and allocation of additional specialist resource.
Weekly meetings and good liaison with the client and sub-contractors were instrumental in ensuring it ran to programme and budget.
There were no H&S incidents and we had numerous audits both internally and external which resulted in no significant non-conformances. Thames Water Senior Management regularly visited the site during the construction phase and positive feedback was given on each occasion.
All design was carried out in house in conjunction with Pall (process plant supplier) 3D model which was then incorporated by Northavon into the overall BIM model for the scheme.
